Fight for the Right to Work
By: Harrison Barnes

A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of Employment Research Institute, as he discussed why it is important to not give up and to fight for your right to work.

Harrison says that the most important thing that you can do in a bad market is to not give up and keep trying. The problem with most people is that they often give up at the very first sign of trouble. He says that giving up will not get you anything but disappointment; on the other hand, if you keep trying hard and put in your best efforts, he believes that you can turn things in your favor.

To substantiate his point, Harrison talks about the difficulties he faced in his job as a paper delivery boy and how he never gave up. He found ways to overcome his problems, be it a corrupt manager who sold him more papers than he could deliver on the cold winter mornings of Michigan or the weather itself, or the tickets he got for unlawfully riding a motorcycle at 71 mph in a 25-mph zone. And, during all this time, not once did he miss a day at work or had someone else do his job.

Harrison says that it’s important for you to be at work every day and not abuse your sick leaves simply because there are other people who rely on us to get a job done. A simple thing as not getting sick can send a great message about your reliability to your employer.

He further states that it is up to you to figure out how to get your work done. You need to use every means within your power to do so in order to ensure that as far as possible things are going in your favor. And, when they don’t, you simply need to fight on.

Forbes Reports 151,352 Layoffs for January Itself; Employment Authority Proposes Alternative Job Search Approach

Pasadena, CA — According to a compilation by Forbes recently, there were 151,352 layoffs at America’s 500 largest public companies in the month of January. MORE

"There are always vacancies. Organizations are born, organizations expand, workers become restless, quit, change jobs, move, become ill long-term, or become handicapped, retire, or die. There are always jobs out there waiting to be filled. The fact that you can't find those jobs only means the vacancy hasn't been advertised, or you're not using the right method to find it. When the Internet or job-postings, or agencies, or ads, or resumes, don't work, there are other ways of turning up the job you want. So, if you're coming up 'empty,' you need to change the search method you've been using. ... To speed up your search for one of the jobs that are out there, go after many different organizations, instead of just one or two."
