Concentrate on Your Product
By: Harrison Barnes

Career Mission's Chief Executive Officer, A. Harrison Barnes, in a webinar discussed the importance of concentrating on your product – the product which defines you, your strength, and your uniqueness.

Your product is your image and your reputation rests upon it. Every company, every person and most schools have a particular product that is very strong, for which they are known. Companies and other organizations thrive on their ability to have a strong, defined product. Organizations and people lose sight of what their product is all the time. The idea of what your product is is something that is of profound significance to your career and life, and losing sight of your product is one of the greatest causes of failure.

Successful organizations become known for one specific thing, and for doing this one specific thing especially well. If an organization offers multiple products or provides the wrong product, they fail.  Everything is about supply and demand and you need to offer that which is most wanted and that which you specialize in and are popular for. For instance, if the Apple Company suddenly decided to go into the business of manufacturing All Terrain Vehicles, then it would most likely lose its core group of IPhone and MacBook customers. You need to keep your product in clear view at all times. There is nothing more important than the product you are offering. Never lose sight of what product you are offering, what your strength is, and what makes you unique.

Forbes Reports 151,352 Layoffs for January Itself; Employment Authority Proposes Alternative Job Search Approach

Pasadena, CA — According to a compilation by Forbes recently, there were 151,352 layoffs at America’s 500 largest public companies in the month of January. MORE

"There are always vacancies. Organizations are born, organizations expand, workers become restless, quit, change jobs, move, become ill long-term, or become handicapped, retire, or die. There are always jobs out there waiting to be filled. The fact that you can't find those jobs only means the vacancy hasn't been advertised, or you're not using the right method to find it. When the Internet or job-postings, or agencies, or ads, or resumes, don't work, there are other ways of turning up the job you want. So, if you're coming up 'empty,' you need to change the search method you've been using. ... To speed up your search for one of the jobs that are out there, go after many different organizations, instead of just one or two."
