Research Firm Reports Lack of Online Jobs; Employment Authority Offers Solution to Ailing Job Seekers

January 8, 2009

Pasadena, CA — A recent job report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, said that job cuts announced by US employers almost quadrupled in December from 2007. Employment Authority, the leading targeted direct mailing service in the US, reports that contacting employers directly is the best way to get a job in the current times.

The Challenger report was backed by declines at financial firms, chemical makers, and retailers due to severe economic recession. According to the report, the firing announcements rose 275% last month from December 2007, to 166,348. For all of 2008, employers announced 1.22 million job cuts, the most in five years.

Additionally, according to Monster Worldwide Inc., online job availability has fallen as employers have drastically pared payrolls to cut costs in the current business downturn. The site also says that online job demand in real estate, rental, and leasing industry slipped to their lowest levels, since Monster began tracking online job data in October 2003.

"In current times, very few employers advertise positions. In fact, about 85% of the jobs are unadvertised, and hence most headhunters and job posting boards have limited number of positions," says A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of Employment Authority. "Also, employers do not post jobs on 'regular' job boards because of the exorbitant rates that the sites charge for posting jobs."

Employment Authority offers career marketing service that researches employer contacts inside of corporations and other employers in the United States and assists high income executives in initiating targeted mailings to those employers. "By preparing polished resumes, providing the tools to conduct targeted mailings, as well as giving informed counsel and support, we match our clients' qualifications and career goals to companies that can offer them the jobs they've been looking for," adds Barnes.

Karen Smith, senior resume writer at Employment Authority, advises clients that it is essential to find those things that describe ones' ability and past experience to go above and beyond basic job requirements.
